Travelodge announced that it will develop a new brand, Metro, a chain of small hotels in gateway cities and in office buildings in the United Kingdom.

The British company sites “demands of its customers” as an indicator to develop as well as the success of two “Metro” prototype projects from last year. Thanks to the lessons learned from these prototypes, their strategy will be to develop in highly coveted real estate (office space or other), but to offer a supply of 20 to 40 rooms. Travelodge has already identified many targeted locations throughout the UK, such as London, Oxford, and Cambridge amongst others. The company states in a press release that, “The ‘Metro’ hotel model will allow the hotel chain to open properties near to existing popular Travelodge’s in locations where larger development sites are either not available or have unrealistic price expectations. In addition to enabling the budget hotelier to open in suburban locations where larger sites may not be deemed desirable by local authorities and development land is at a premium.”Guy Parsons, Chief Executive of Travelodge Hotels said: “…we have discovered just how profitable smaller hotels can be for us. Therefore to accelerate our growth strategy we are going to start building ‘Metro’ style hotels across the UK. This concept will allow us to open hotels where other hoteliers can’t develop.”Properties that will be in this plan will include: floors in office buildings, business parks, pubs, old cinemas / theaters, listed buildings, and retail outlets amongst others. Their objective is to build 100 Metros before 2020. hotel has become one of the company’s top performing hotels due to its key location..Guy Parsons, Chief Executive of Travelodge Hotels said: “…we have discovered just how profitable smaller hotels can be for us.
