Senior vice president of human resources and administration
Patrick Cimerola is senior vice president of human resources and administration for Choice Hotels International, Inc. (NYSE: CHH), one of the world’s largest hotel franchisors.
In this position, he makes sure that the broad spectrum of human resources programs and services support the company’s business operations and are fully aligned with the company’s strategies and objectives. He also is an officer of the company.
Mr. Cimerola has 18 years’ experience in human resources. He joined Choice in January 2002 as senior director of human resources and in January 2003 was promoted to vice president. In September 2009, Mr. Cimerola was promoted to senior vice president.
Under his leadership, Choice has significantly strengthened its human resources strategies across all aspects of the organization.
His successes at Choice include developing a strong talent acquisition and leadership development plan with a focus on and commitment to diversity recruiting and retention initiatives, as well as a highly recognized employee and executive on-boarding program that has contributed to Choice earning the reputation as being one of the area’s “Best Places to Work” by Washingtonian magazine. In addition, he has significantly enhanced the company’s competitive stance with respect to compensation, diversity and employee engagement.
In 2002, Mr. Cimerola successfully guided the conversion to a more robust HR platform that leverages process and technology. He also has provided oversight for the company’s health, benefits and associate programs, including management of the on-site cafeteria and fitness center and the execution of improved work/life initiatives such as flexible work arrangements. Each of these programs has helped enhance the company’s value proposition with current and prospective employees.
Prior to joining Choice, Mr. Cimerola held a variety of positions in healthcare services and hospitality. From 2000 to 2001, he served as vice president of human resources for Capella Senior Living LLC, a start-up venture to provide long-term healthcare services. Prior to Capella, he spent eight years with ManorCare (formerly the parent company of Choice Hotels)—joining the company in 1991 as regional human resources manager and subsequently moving to director of human resources for ManorCare Health Services in 1992 and ultimately to director of human resources for HCR ManorCare.
