The Royal Gangaur, a 150 year old barge of the Royal Family of Mewar (Udaipur) is leased to Taj Lake Palace, an original palace hotel. The experience involves serving cocktails & dinner on the barge.
The Royal Gangaur, a 150 year old barge belonging to the Royal Family of Mewar (Udaipur, Rajasthan, India) is leased to & operated by Indian Hotels Company Limited (Taj) along with the renowned Taj Lake Palace, an original palace hotel. The experience involves serving cocktails & dinner on the barge.
Painted in the colours of the house (red and blue), the aspect and functionality of this barge has been entirely preserved in original since its construction one and half centuries back. Taj Lake Palace acquired the exclusive operating right of the barge along with that of the palace.
While the Maharanas’ families would use it as a cruise boat for any special occasion or procession in ancient times, it is now the stage for private food and beverage experiences organized exclusively for our guests. The experience consists of a cocktail cruise or a dinner on board the Royal Gangaur while it is being rowed by six rowers. The guest can just sip their favourite cocktail & enjoy sumptuous delicacies from a live grill under a canopy of stars & leave all the arrangements in the hands of the team at the hotel when on Gangaur Boat. Live instrumental music provides a fitting accompaniment to this unique and unparalleled experience. If the boat looks familiar, perhaps it is because it was famously sighted in the James Bond classic "Octopussy," which was filmed on location at the hotel in 1983.
The entire experience is customized for the guest once the initial enquiry is made. The menu is arrived at by the Chef in consultation with the guest who inform the Chef of their preferences. The options for a sit down dinner or a casual al fresco dining are again ascertained from the guest & arranged accordingly. Special delights are created through discoveries during the guests stay or through consultations with their office or partners. Personalized menus & cocktail napkins are the norm when on board the Royal Gangaur.
Although a huge boat which can accommodate approx. 30 guests the Royal Gangaur Experience is exclusive and customized to the number of guests who decide to charter it, even if that number is only one. Surprises like fireworks and dancers carrying flamed pots are created for the guest on Gangaur to add to the drama of this unique experience.
