St Christopher’s has introduced a brand new concept to the backpacker market, the Capsule Bed. They encompass state-of-the-art technology whilst respecting backpacker traditions.

Travelling in the 21st century just got cooler.

St Christopher’s Inns is the first UK hostel to offer the true capsule bed experience to its customers. Breaking boundaries in budget travel, this trendy concept was inspired by the rise of capsule beds in hostels around China, Japan and Singapore - so we decided to bring them to the heart of London, and installed 26 capsule beds at our award-winning hostel in London Bridge.

The capsules at St Christopher’s At The Village are hot on quality, design and space, built with the young 21st century backpacker in mind. Tailoring to their needs and demands, we’ve maxed out the capsules with the latest technology and coolest gadgets. As proven in Asia, the new generation travellers have really taken to this revolutionized way of travelling.

The capsules provide the best of both worlds, whether you desire your own space, or to connect with other travellers. We introduced the capsules to cater to a growing demand for more privacy and comfort in a hostel whilst keeping the social atmosphere that backpacker’s know and love.

Since the installation of the capsules, we kicked off a full blown marketing campaign in-house that resulted in a significant increase in bookings, net bed rate and gained brand recognition on an international scale through mass press coverage. We received 30 pieces of press coverage for free and we set aside budget to accommodate travel influencers in the capsules in return for social media promotion, blog reviews or videos on their channels.

The success of the capsules and the marketing strategy that came with it was the biggest return on investment St Christopher’s Inns has ever received from a campaign.

The capsule beds themselves have proved popular with our customers and we plan to implement more capsules in our other sites in the future. St Christopher’s Inns is a place for backpackers to meet new people, make new memories and have fun.
