To finalise this intense conversion of a mature destination in Majorca, Meliá Hotels International has just opened the new Calviá Beach The Plaza, with state-of-the-art design and facilities.
State-of-the-art architecture and design and a rooftop terrace with the largest suspended swimming pools in Europe (46 metres long) are the most outstanding features of the new Calviá Beach The Plaza Hotel, the latest addition to the portfolio of Meliá Hotels International in Magaluf. The hotel will officially open this weekend and will go beyond just creating a new modern and iconic image for both Meliá and the entire destination of Magaluf.
The newly built hotel provides 272 rooms, 4 swimming pools - two on the first floor for guests staying in sundeck rooms, and two on the spectacular fifth floor rooftop terrace with views over the entire bay.
Meliá has also built a 200-vehicle car park to make it easier to visit the hotel and surrounding Plaza for both residents and visitors to the island. Part of the hotel space next to the Plaza houses important superior quality international fashion, retail and dining brands to complement the existing shopping facilities in the destination.
The building is split into two by a large open square in the shape of an "X" that aims to create a new urban axis between the two main streets in Magaluf, ending at the beach. To keep the views over the sea and free up ground floor space for the hotel and stores, the rooftops were reserved for all the public recreation areas, dining facilities and swimming pools, guaranteeing visitors and hotel guests would enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the bay.
Calviá Beach The Plaza is the final touch of a 6 years long project. After intense renovation in which Meliá Hotels International has invested almost 200 million euros, this has been another momentous step forward in transformation of Magaluf into a superior quality, more sustainable and more balanced destination.
Three hotels in one for the most complete experience
Calviá Beach The Plaza Hotel is part of the new resort named Sol House Calviá Beach, formed by three hotels which are very close to each other yet provide different styles and facilities that guests at any of the three hotels can enjoy as part of their stay. They can also do so without having to carry around any cash or ID thanks to modern smart bracelets that allow guests to use and pay for services throughout the resort, including in the stores.
Sol House The Studio offers a music and entertainment experience for younger guests. Sol Wave House provides huge terraces overlooking the beach, a beach club and a wave pool for surfing which is unique in Mallorca. Calviá Beach The Plaza offers the ultimate rooftop terrace experience full of life and with chill-out spaces, dining and sundecks, all crowned by its amazing swimming pools.
Guests can move freely around the three hotels and eight restaurants and bars, as well as use any of the eight swimming pools in the resort.
Meliá Bracelets
These bracelets have a Bluetooth connection to the Meliá App to allow guests to unlock the door to their room just by placing the bracelet next to the lock. The bracelet also allows access to all of the services offered by the hotel, such as paying for meals in the restaurant or treatments at the spa. The new bracelet also allows them to pay for all the services in their hotel or in any other company hotel in Magaluf. Guests in any one of the hotels can thus enjoy the restaurants or Spas at any of the 9 Meliá hotels in Magaluf: the Sol House Resort (3 hotels), Sol Katmandu, Meliá Calviá Beach, ME Mallorca, Sol Barbados, Sol Guadalupe and Sol Beach House Mallorca, (stay in 1, play in 9) and even do their shopping at Momentum Plaza.
Momentum Plaza
The Momentum Plaza, the complementary shopping area, opens today with a range of superior- quality shopping and leisure facilities, an essential part of the "Calviá Beach" complex which Meliá Hotels International has been promoting for several years in Magaluf to support the transformation and repositioning of the destination,
As part of the firm commitment led by Meliá to extend the travel season beyond the summer and maintain activity and employment levels, the Momentum Plaza shopping and leisure area has involved an investment of almost 5 million euros and will be open all year round. The Calviá Beach The Plaza Hotel, which has also just opened, will also remain open all year.
Up to now, Magaluf has had very few quality stores, especially in the low and shoulder seasons. Meliá will keep the Calviá Beach The Plaza Hotel and its Momentum Plaza open all year to allow permanent access to quality complementary facilities that the renovated 4 and 4-star superior Magaluf hotels have been demanding. To help attract and retain both tourists and residents alike, Momentum Plaza has scheduled numerous activities every day of the week such as markets, theatrical performances, music and dance.
