Campaign - LUX* Resorts & Hotels - Tread Lightly & Ray Of Light
Through actions, big and small, LUX* Resorts & Hotels commits to uplifting communities with Ray of Light and puts environmental stewardship at the core of our business model through our Tread Lightly initiative.
Headquartered in Mauritius, Africa, LUX* also operates in Reunion Island, Maldives, China, Turkey and soon the UAE, Viet Nam and Italy. Demonstrating sustainable business acumen by scoring key partnerships and awards, LUX* was the first hotel group to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius Sustainability Index, showing leadership by satisfying numerous economic, environmental, social and good governance criterias.
LUX* was awarded the SEM-10 Corporate Reporting Awards 2017 by PwC and is the only Mauritian hotel group part of the GRI Gold community. LUX* is the only hotel group in Mauritius that offsets 100% of the carbon generated by guests stays and operations. ‘Tread Lightly by LUX*’ invites guests to contribute to certified UNFCCC, VCS or Gold Standard offsetting projects.
Tread Lightly currently supports 7 offsetting projects in Africa and Asia, supplying over 200,000 people with electricity from renewable sources such as hydropower, photovoltaic, wind power or biogas. (https://aera-group.fr/fiche/lux-resorts-hotels/) Tread Lightly was the catalyst in considerably reducing the group’s energy and water consumption through practical solutions like energy Management Systems, paper use-reducing LUX* Valet, LED lights, tap aerators or desalination plants. LUX* is cutting down waste, recycling waste, water and used oil. The Laundry Asterix is a creative communication tool, successfully reducing consumption by encouraging guests to be eco-friendly.
Tread Lightly includes customised for LUX* : Mamma Aroma organic spa amenities, made from local ingredients, ScruCap wines that don’t use corks and take a short trip from South Africa to Mauritius and in-house bottling of locally sourced Earth&Dance waters, limiting transport while serving in glass bottles eliminates plastic and waste. Housekeeping products are earth friendly and safe for team members using them daily.
Under Tread Lightly, LUX* island Ile des Deux Cocos has become completely self-sufficient in energy with a 20 kW PV plant decreasing carbon footprint by 100 tonnes of CO2/year – this pilot project is an introduction to upcoming larger plants in LUX* hotels.
With Ray of Light by LUX*, the group is able to continually uplift the communities where we operate. LUX* encourages stakeholders to join us in fighting poverty through education, funding healthcare for Thalassemia patients and the disabled or preserving biodiversity. The five Mauritian resorts annually engage young NGO beneficiaries in environmental campaigns supporting their holistic education. LUX* recently distributed 1,200 endemic plants to NGOs, municipal councils and primary schools around the country. Resorts in Reunion Island regularly solicit the Marine Reserve of La Reunion to coach young beneficiaries of their affiliate NGO on marine life preservation. LUX* funded sports facilities in an impoverished zone of Mauritius and distributed seventy Photovoltaic lamps to the households for Earth Hour. LUX* Charity Dinner fundraised MUR 400,000.00 for entrepreneurship courses to uplift 95 women out of poverty, giving them the tools to set up a business.
