Summary _ Bernd Schneider was selected by Sofitel to spearhead the launch of the brand and flagship hotel in lndia- the Sofitel Mumbai BKC, for his tremendous experience in opening hotels in numerous Asian countries, his commitment to excellence and in-depth knowledge and understanding of bath Accor and Sofitel. _ Launching a luxury brand in a developing market is a challenging proposition and Bernd has not only successfully overcome any obstacles in his path but has also been instrumental in the creation of unique F&B concepts in the hotel -concepts unique in the city as weil._ Tuskers, originally designed as a "Le Nôtre" restaurant, was fin ally transformed - after Bernd's intervention - to be the only Vegetarian restaurant in a Luxury hotel in Mumbai and among the first in the country. The immediate success of Tuskers with its bold and daring concept has already become a case study at the Harvard Business School . _ Jyran was originally conceived as an lndian restaurant serving traditional food from different regions of lndia. Upon conducting research and discovering the city, Bernd finalised the concept of the restaurant to be a Tandoor Dining and Lounge, incorporating an entertainment angle along with lndian fine-dining to create a modern lounge feeling with eclectic music and cocktails. The strong design elements of the restaurant were combined with the culinary skills of Master Chef Shaukat Qureshi to create a unique experience in the city._ Bernd's involvement in the fabric of local society wherever ne has lived has been on a social level with memberships and leading raies in several associations and clubs. This involvement has been enhanced by his commitment to socially relevant causes, being a champion of Green initiatives such as Tree Planting, Vermicomposting and launching Planet 21 - Accor's global Green initiative in Mumbai, working actively with Operation Smile and the Virlanie Foundation to help those in need. Most recently, Bernd represented the brand at the launch of the "New Generation Youth Activity Centre" at a slum neighbourhood in Mumbai, continuing his passion to help others. _ The challenges of living and working in lndia have been firmly assimilated by Bernd- as he has done in several countries in the past- and he is today a true "Mumbaikar" with a global outlook._ Please tell us why do you think you should win?_ I have been nominated for the Best General Manager A ward due to the reasons stated above and in recognition of my achievements over a long and successful career with Accor and Sofitel. I feel that i should win because i have successfully taken on ali challenges du ring my career, built great teams, delivered excellent results consistently and I am a warrior who fights to achieve a win-win in ali scenarios. lndia was a challenge in my career as it involved complexities in ownership, management and launching a French brand in a market that had limited connection to France. The time spent in the country has been tremendously enriching and contributed to my continuous learning, something I am devoted to.
