Jacqui McMillanMy name is Jacqui McMillan and I am the General Manager of Novotel Reading Centre. I have been with Accor Hotels for over 12 years and have held a number of positions.

Summary _ In 2003 I became the General Manager of the Ibis hotel in Glasgow and this was my 1st GM's position. In 2006 I moved from the economy brand to become the General Manager of Novotel Glasgow after a successful 3 years in the Ibis Hotel. In 2010 I relocated with my family to be the General Manager of Novotel Bristol where I stayed for 18 months. Although I was only there a short period compared to my previous positions, I successfully built on the reputation the hotel already had and inspired the team to become Sales people to increase the revenue. The results year to date in this hotel compared to 2011 improved greatly. In June 2012 I had the opportunity to move to Novotel Reading which I am thoroughly enjoying and utilising my skills to develop the team, improve quality and increase sales._ I am fortunate to work for a company with a very positive attitude to CSR and sustainability. In 2007 I was appointed the Earth Check Coordinator for Novotel UK. This allowed me to continue and enhance the work I was already doing locally in the Glasgow Market Place. Earth Check and Planet 21 have allowed me to support my colleagues with both of these initiatives, work with partners involved in Earth Check and I truly feel I am making a difference whilst doing my job which is so rewarding._ I am a born hotelier. I am so proud to have a career that I thoroughly enjoy and most days it doesn’t feel like I am going to work; it’s so much more than just a job._ Please tell us why do you think you should win?_ I think I should win this award because you will not find anyone who has the passion and drive that I have to do a great job as a General Manager in any hotel I have worked in. Any of the teams that have worked with me in the past would support my application. I believe I have supported my colleagues with CSR and helped them understand the importance of Earth Check and Planet 21. I am innovative, I allow my team the autonomy to do their jobs whilst always being here to support them and assist in the decision making. I am highly driven with a clear focus on costs and controls in my hotel however this should never come at the cost of quality or service.
