_ ln October 2011, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts launched a healthy yet fun dining option for children, in over 30 properties across the Middle East and Asia. The concept is designed around the idea that restaurants should become welcoming places for children where they enjoy themselves and find nutritious food that is both tasty and appealing.
Summary_ Power Bites was collectively put together by six selected Mövenpick executive chefs, under the leadership and guidance of the Vice President of Food and Beverage for the Middle East and Asia, Peter Drescher. Each chef created around five dishes which were test cooked and their nutritional values were th en defined. Now the re are over 30 dishes designed, 10 of which are featured at a time on the Power Bites rotational menu. Each menu consists of appetizers, main courses and deserts, with all options containing local produce, that are low in cholesterol and high in nutrients with no saturated fats._ Childhood obesity and heart disease are rapidly growing concerns across the globe. Therefore all Power Bites ingredients are low fat, use low sodium salt, lean meat, with an abundant use of fruit and vegetables, and no saturated fats. Moreover, nowadays children have constant sources of entertainment in the form of iPads, phones and games. ln order to capture the younger clientele, the aim for Power Bites is to be equally entertaining with its food offering. Children are for instance invited to eat with their fingers, paint carrots and arrange little figurine characters. lt's important that restaurants become welcoming places for children and that they enjoy themselves. After all, families go out to eat to have fun. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts just wants to help._ Presently Power Bites has generated a great deal of positive reactions from guests and media. Additionally it has successfully increased customer loyalty, restaurant revenue as well as room revenue from a tactical promotion implemented for the launch of the concept. Power bites is also educational in the sense that it incorporates local cuisine, ingredients and cooking techniques as well as offering variety to satisfy a range of different tastes and preferences.
