
MKG Hospitality data shows that the Berlin hotel industry benefited generously from the MICE events that took place last week, attracting international visitors to the German capital.
Hoteliers in Berlin had an excellent business week due to the "Bread & Butter Tradeshow for Selected Brands" which took place from 18 to 20 January 2012 and the "Mercedes Benz Fashion Week" which took place from 17 to 22 January 2012. As for this second event, its success is noteworthy because it took place at the same time as the Paris Fashion Week. The Bread & Butter Tradeshow for Selected Brands is a well-established and original event that allows fashion creators, artists and musicians to present their latest trends amongst the world’s leading Street & Urbanwear brands. According to data from MKG Hospitality’s market studies, hoteliers in Berlin enjoyed an 84.7% occupancy rate for a period lasting from 18 January 2012 to 21 January 2012, +1.1 pct point above the same period last year. The forecasted success of these annual events allowed hoteliers to raise their average daily rates by 2.6% to 95.70 euros. Consequently, RevPAR went up by +3.9% to 81 Euros.When looking at the daily breakdown of these figures, one will notice that Wednesday 18 January and Thursday 19 January showed the best OR in the time period at 95.6% and 93.7% respectively; however, these figures are slightly lower than 2011’s results by -1.2% pct point. Friday 20 January had the highest growth rates across the board, which lead the RevPAR to increase by over 10 points.
