May 2024: the start of a brighter outlook for the French hotel industry

After a lacklustre April, the French hotel industry bounced back in May. The record number of bank holidays and bridging days explains this upturn in business, although visitor numbers remain slightly down, as the weather is still not ideal. Corsica and Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur continue to stand out from the rest of France, with Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes also making a major comeback on the national tourism scene.

Although occupancy levels are still down in May, with the French hotel sector posting a -0.4 point drop, this is less pronounced than last month's figure of -2.2 points. The occupancy rate continues to rise month on month, from 65% in April to 69.3% this month. The positive trend in prices continues...
