Summary _ I always knew I wanted to work in the hospitality industry and after completing my BA Degree in Tourism Management I joined Accor almost 10 years ago at Ibis Rotherham as a Hotel Team Member. During this time I gained the basic skills and knowledge which would help me in my future career in the hotel industry. I spent 4 years in this hotel and 1 had the opportunity to progress to hotel Team Leader. This position allowed me to develop my skills and gain essential experience required to manage a hotel and a hotel team. This position and the training provided was a platform which enabled me to then move on to be the Assistant General Manager at the Ibis Manchester. _ I spend a further 2 years at Ibis Manchester and during this time I was selected as a candidate for the Accor Management Development Programme, in which I won the best project. This was an essential training programme providing me with the essential management skills which later allowed me to apply and be successful with a General Manager position at Ibis Budget Sheffield Arena. I have worked at Ibis Budget Sheffield Arena for the 4 years ad du ring 2011 I was given the opportunity to manage Ibis Budget Leeds Centre , whilst overseeing the operation of Ibis Budget Sheffield Arena also. Ibis Budget Leeds Centre is a 218 bedroom city centre hotel with strong occupancy levels and sound financial results. This position allowed me to further develop the skills I have gained as a successful General Manager in Ibis Budget Sheffield Arena. _ ln my position as a General Manager in both Ibis Budget hotels 1 have supported the development of the SMART customer service programme and 1 have also undertaken the 'buddy' role for a new General Manager. _ I heard of my nomination for the Worldwide Hospitality awards and I immediately felt very proud and excited, then 1 saw the criteria descriptive of the nominations. And so 1 thought 'wow' this is a huge privilege. I must admit I did think why me? I am a general manager in Ibis Budget surely we don't get nominated for this sort of thing let alone maybe win. Don't get me wrong, I think and believe that ali General Managers of Ibis Budgets and ali other brands deserve ali recognition, but you must admit this is easier said than done. I salute the good men and women who are my companions in this industry. I am a product of hospitality and what it stands for. When I received the nomination I struggled to find the words or reasons to express how truly thrilled I am. I took it upon myself to ask those who know me best, my team, my colleagues, my peers and even my family what they thought and what I should say._ Please tell us why do you think you should win?_ Although they were ali generous with their comments, one question was always asked "why shouldn't you win or be nominated?". I work hard, I am committed, I believe and trust those around me, I go to work every day knowing that I will do everything for my team, my company and my guests, this is me and I represent ali of us in hospitality.lt is our cause to be braced by challenges but never to struggle alone. ln hospitality, no one is left out; no one is left behind.
