Easter weekend is a key moment for the hotel industry, a true indicator of the health of the sector before the start of the high season. In 2025, this strategic weekend took on a special dimension as it coincided with the school holidays, amplifying the influx of travellers. For hoteliers, it was a golden opportunity to see their performance take off. So, was the hunt for customers a good one for French hoteliers?

As every year, Booking.com reveals the destinations most favored by French travelers between April and May 5th. This year, the calendar worked out in such a way that the long weekend coincided with the spring break across all school zones. This was bound to boost the hotel performance of the destinations in question.

So, which destinations were most searched for by the French this year? The 2025 ranking is largely similar to that of 2024, with a few small changes. Montpellier disappears from the top 10, while Biarritz makes a remarkable entry, landing in 7th place.

While Paris retains its first place, Marseille drops a rank, leaving second place to Nice. Like the capital, Lyon remains stable and keeps its 4th position, but this time it is followed by Annecy, replacing Bordeaux.

If these cities led the search trends, what about their hotel performance? According to data from MKG Destination, Nice boasts a slightly higher occupancy rate than Paris (82.2% vs 82%), demonstrating its dynamism during this extended weekend. Marseille is somewhat behind with a total occupancy rate of 76.2%.

However, all these cities saw improvements in this indicator compared to last year, with increases of +3.1 points for Nice, +5.6 points for Marseille, and +7 points for Paris. The significant growth in Paris can be partly explained by the avoidance effect last year due to preparations for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

But on the pricing front, it’s Nice that shows the highest average price increase (+21.3%), followed by Marseille (+12.8%), while Paris increases by "only" +5%. With very high demand and a more limited hotel inventory than the City of Light, it’s not surprising to see the average prices in Nice skyrocket like this.
