Airbus and Zodiac Aerospace plan to install bunks in aircraft holds.

Airbus and Zodiac Aerospace have signed a partnership agreement to install berths or meeting areas in the holds of A330 aircraft by 2020, and even on A350 aircraft thereafter. At the very high price per m² of an aircraft, the companies considered ways to optimize the return on their assets.

These extra beds can be offered to economy class passengers who do not have a convertible seat. They will be removable and could be installed for long-haul flights, at night, and then removed to make room for the transport of goods. The innovation is inspired by the rest areas designed and already used by on-board staff.

"We are very pleased to be working with Airbus on this innovative new project, which highlights our expertise in cargo deck solutions. An improved passenger experience is now a key differentiator for airlines," said Christophe Bernardini, General Manager of Zodiac Aerospace's Cabin Division.
