The first autonomous train tests are underway on the Toulouse-Rodez line. SNCF hopes to improve safety and regularity with the introduction of new technology.
The company intends to develop the autonomous train network in France. The first tests are underway on the Toulouse-Rodez line. The first experiment will take place in 2019 and the autonomous train is expected to be put into operation in 2025.
The train will be equipped with sensors, radar and embedded cameras. Auto-piloted from a remote control center, the autonomous train will receive satellite data from Galileo, the European GPS. All trains running on the tracks can be detected and directed due to the cutting-edge geolocation technology.
With the introduction of autonomous train, SNCF hopes to improve its safety and regularity performance.
