In 2013, international hotel chains maintained a supply growth rate close to standards recorded in the previous two years. The global branded supply progressed by 3.2% on the period, with the addition of some 244,000 additional rooms. This growth rate, calculated as of January 1, 2014, is nonetheless lower than the 4.3% observed in 2009 and 2010. Emerging countries are once again the primary source of global growth, especially Asia Pacific, which, with about +11.5% change, posted the best growth rate in its supply. The region kindles the interest of hotel chains from around the world, while benefiting from the dynamism of its local, especially Chinese, brands keep rising in the global ranking. Traditionally positioned on the economy hotel segment, actors in the Middle Empire are now diversifying by segmenting their supply and opening up to other ranges. Renewed development may also be observed in the Africa-Middle East region, where supply growth is more pronounced than the previous year, with the addition of some 23,000 new rooms for around 7.2% growth in 2013.

Within a difficult economic context, the global branded hotel supply pursues growth in 2013. Up by 3.2%, the number of rooms grew to 7.85 million on January 1, 2014.
