
Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced the sale of The St Regis, Rome to Constellation Hotels Holding Limited for 110 million euros.
First opened as the Grand Hotel in 1896 by renowned hotelier César Ritz, the St Regis is located in the center of Rome at Via Vittorio Emanuele Orlando 3, near Piazza della Repubblica. The hotel was renovated in 2000, representing an investment of $35 million. It was first St Regis to open in Europe. Constellation Holding Limited wishes to continue renovations and plans to finance new works to upgrade all 161 of the hotel's rooms and suites, the restaurant, the lobby, meeting rooms, the business center and the facade.
On January 1, 2014, Starwood Hotels & Resorts was the seventh hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms according to the ranking made each year by MKG Hospitality, hospitality consulting firm founded by Georges Panayotis. It had 339,243 rooms in 1,161 hotels. (Read our report)
