Six years after the building was bought by the Qatari investment fund and four and a half years after the beginning of works, the Peninsula Paris, avenue Kléber, revealed its nooks and crannies to a hundred or so privileged few from the French and International press, before welcoming their first guest next August 1.
Christopher Knable, COO at Katara Hospitality, came from Doha to justify the hundreds of millions of euros invested in the acquisition and renovation of the building to give it a second life, even more brilliant than the one it began in 1908.
The former Hôtel Majestic, which became a Conference Center after World War II and was sold to Qatari investors in 2008, is now unrecognizable to those who were accustomed to a soulless, grey building.
Paris's new deluxe hotel supply is accumulating superlatives: 166 rooms from 40 to 65 m² and 34 suites from 75 to 1,500 m², ranging from 700 euros to 25,000 euros for the biggest suite. 2,000 m² of kitchens fill the basement, catering around the clock to six F&B units, from the Bar Kléber to the Lily, a gastronomic Cantonese restaurant, and including the Oiseau Blanc, the bistronomique restaurant that has one of the most beautiful terraces in Paris and the Lobby restaurant that opens onto the terrace on avenue Kléber.
To the amenities may be added the Peninsula Spa by ESPA, with its swimming pool, fitness center, indoor gardens, and a Rolls Royce for transfers and the MiniCoopers for suite occupants...
Each space has received careful attention to combine contemporary art and the tradition of the building, the French spirit and Asian touches. Many works of art were commissioned to decorate the rarely equaled volumes on Paris's marketplace.
For Peninsula, this 10th address is a first incursion into Europe that will be followed in a few years by an opening in London, near Buckingham Palace. The partnership with Katara Hospitality is reflected in a 20% participation in the capital of the property including the building and a 30-year renewable management contract.
Katara hopes for new opportunities for partnerships with the prestigious Chinese chain, in particular in order to reach its goal of 30 owned hotels in cities and iconic buildings around the world.
