Artur Mas, president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, has admitted Barcelona is looking into alternative investment opportunities, as chances that the €15bn project will be granted to rival candidate Madrid increase.
The fight between Madrid and Barcelona to secure the €15 billion ($19 billion) EuroVegas project will be soon come to an end when Las Vegas Sands under tycoon Sheldon Adelson officially announces its chosen city later this month. However, Tomás Gómez, leader of the Socialist Party in the region of Madrid (PSM), affirmed the President of Madrid Esperanza Aguirre “closed a firm deal several days ago” with the US business magnate. If this is the case, the project - which includes the construction of 12 hotels and 6 casinos providing much-needed finance and jobs to the city - will be constructed in Alcorcón in the suburbs of Madrid. Mr Adelson has said the announcement will be made “as soon as possible.”
