Las Vegas Sands (LVS) has announced it has chosen Madrid as the destination for its multi-billion EuroVegas casino project, confirming speculations on the matter.
Sheldon Adelson, President and CEO of LVS, has made an official announcement regarding the chosen location for his €18 billion (US$22.8 billion) EuroVegas projet, saying: “Choosing Madrid over Barcelona was not an easy selection.” He added the effort Madrid had put in to secure the project was appreciated. The project should create tens of thousands of much-needed jobs, but has been highly controversial and opposed by many protest groups, not least because Adelson has requested exemptions to Spain’s anti-tobacco and local planning laws. The process is in the early phases; still to be decided is the exact size and scope of the project, which will be located on the outskirts of the capital. As part of the development, 12 hotels representing 36,000 rooms will be built. Construction should begin in six months’ time.
