The American actor Leonardo DiCaprio plans to open a Luxury hotel on the Island of Blackadore Caye, off the coast of Belize. The first guests will be able to go ashore in 2018, ten years after the island's purchase.
The project is carried out in partnership with Delos, founded by Paul Scialla, who had been a real "Wolf of Wall Street" for 18 years including 10 at Goldman Sachs. Delos is a development group focussed on wellness and environmental sustainability. Leonardo DiCaprio is on the advisory board at Delos as Sustainability Advocate. The lead architect and designer for the project is the very environmentally conscious Jason F. McLennan.
68 guest villas and 48 vacation houses with private beaches should thus result. Real estate development is guaranteed by Restorative Islands L.L.C and the management of hotel activities entrusted to Restorative Hospitality, a division of Delos. The opening is scheduled for 2018.
Leonardo DiCaprio hopes that when the bulldozers are gone the place will become a symbol of sustainability and ecology. Conferences and ecology orientation programs for guests will be held there. It remains to be seen if the island's future residents (between 5 and 15 million dollars to buy a house) will uphold this ecological spirit.
