The Middle Eastern owners of the luxury positioned hotel group may try to sell the entity which brings together the brands Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Raffles and Swissotel.

The FRHI Hotels & Resorts may soon be up for sale, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. Its owners, the Qatari government and the Kingdom Holding Company of Saudi Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal, seek to separate from the entity which brings together luxury brands Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Raffles and Swissotel. They would thus have contacted the banks Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank to launch the operation. If the sale goes ahead, the amount of the transaction could reach 3 billion dollars according to estimates by one of the group leaders.

Based in Toronto, FRHI Hotels & Resorts had a portfolio of 119 hotels (including 74 under the brand Fairmont Hotels & Resorts) as of January 1, 2015, representing some 45,192 rooms (including 30,518 just for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts), according to data released by MKG Hospitality. It was 27th in the ranking of global hotel groups by number of rooms realized every year by the hospitality consulting firm (read our article).

A few days ago, the financial press was already beginning to report on discussions among the current shareholders of the hotel group Fairmont Raffles International, preparing a possible exit of Prince Al-Waleed through Kingdom Holding Company.
