It's Brad Pitt's turn to bet on the hospitality sector. The American actor wants to participate in a development project at one of the most valued destinations of the moment: Croatia.

To the south of the city of Šibenik, in Croatia's coastal town of Zablace, which was famous for its salt works in the Middle Ages, Brad Pitt is considering building an upscale complex for about 2,500 people. It would be an extension of Zablace that would include a hotel, villas, a golf, restaurants and retail stores. A clinic and a school might also be part of the project. The Hollywood star wants it to be eco-friendly; its cost is estimated at $1.5 billion. Brad Pitt already considered a project in this Croatia in 2012 when he wished to develop a resort in the country at Istia, under the name “Barabriga”, but it was not completed. The current project is part of a collaboration with the architect Nikola Bašić and the investment firm TFI Holding. The investment firm has already invested about $70 million.

The actor may very well join the host of the celebrities betting on the hospitality sector, after Robert de Niro who invested in a hotel located in London and Cristiano Ronaldo who launched his own boutique hotel brand “CR7” in Portugal (and two are in development in Madrid and New York) or Leonardo DiCaprio who announced last year that he wanted to develop an ecological resort on the coast of Belize. The sector is drawing a growing number of celebrities from a variety of activities.
