December 2014: Middle Eastern hoteliers end the year on a positive note

December was a pretty good month for Middle Eastern hoteliers. Most of the countries have seen their RevPAR grow. In North Africa, results are particularly good in Tunisia (16.5 % in RevPAR ) and in Egypt ( 49.8 % in RevPAR )

In North Africa, the RevPAR fell in Morocco (-5.4%) despite the organization of the the FIFA World Cup but increased in Algeria and Tunisia, particularly in Tunisia where it was driven by international congresses and exhibitions. Performances for the year 2014 have been good for all three countries. Egypt continued to achieve good results compared to last year and considering the difficult situation in the country, the RevPAR increased by 25% since the beginning of the year. On the whole year, the ADR is on a positive trend (+8.8%).

Compared to November, Turkey records good perfomances in December, explained by the rise in the occupancy rate and the simultaneous growth of the ADR (+2.8%). The year 2014 sees a strong increase in the ADR (+15.2 %) and a decrease in occupancy (-1 pt). In other countries in the Levant, hotel performances follow a positive trend for Lebanon (RevPAR +25.5%) thanks to the organization of scientific and medical congresses. For Jordan, the occupancy is on a negative variation and the ADR are stable. For the whole year, the hotel industry in Lebanon and Jordan registered increases in the RevPAR by 3% and 6.2% respectively.

Good results may be observed in the Arabian Peninsula except for in the South: the largest increase in occupancy is recorded in Bahrain (+8.4 pt). Despite the decrease in the ADR, the RevPAR improves a lot (+15% on December and 19.1% on the year 2014). Excellent month for United Arab Emirates and Qatar: RevPAR increases strongly in Abu Dhabi (+43.7%), the emirate welcomed the Volvo Race 2014-2015 (boat racing) for many days. In Qatar, all indicators rose and the RevPAR increased by 11.8% (and 10.9% on the year 2014) with the organization in Doha of ITU Telecom World 2015 from December 7 to 10. Saudi Arabia records a rise in its RevPAR (+9.3%), with a positive evolution for the occupancy rate and the ADR. All cities in the sample were on a positive trend except Riyadh (RevPAR: - 2.1%). Kuwait is on this trend too, with a positive evolution in its RevPAR by 5.3% this month. Oman is on a very slight negative trend for its RevPAR (-0.7%), however Yemen continues to see its results decline.
