Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias unveils Greece’s ambition to bring together Mediterranean countries for cooperation in tourism.
March 30, 2022 on the sidelines of the International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM) trade show in Tel Aviv, Vassilis Kikilias talked with his Israeli counterpart Yoel Razvozov about a possible Mediterranean Region Cooperation.
Greek Tourism Minister said Greece plans to initiate a “regional cooperation in tourism” between Mediterranean countries. A proposal recognised by Yoel Razvozov who said that Israel supports the Greek initiative. Both ministers want to strengthen mutual actions in tourism with a focus on marine tourism.
During his journey in Tel Aviv Vassilis Kikilias also talked with airline executives EL AL Airlines CEO Avigal Soreq and Arkia Airlines CEO Gadi Tepper. As a result of these exchanges both airlines company agreed to increase flights to Greek destinations for 2022. In addition to this, Arkia airlines announced the launch of a flight to the coastal town of Volos.
Greek Tourism Minister will also meet major Israeli tour operators and travel agents in order to increase tourist flows between the two countries. The effort is also put on historic Jewish sites and to alternative tourism options such as medical tourism, gastronomy tourism and winter tourism. The main goal is to extend Israeli travelers’ stay in Greece.
During IMTM, Israeli investors also expressed interest in Athens and mainland Greece to Vassilis Kikilias, a boon for the development of tourism activity outside the major greek destinations already well established. Through meetings with Israeli’s local media, Greek Tourism Minister reaffirmed the ambition of the destination to welcome tourists all year round.
