Fosun to relaunch Thomas Cook brand

Fosun acquired the brand after the company's bankruptcy for 13 million euros.

The Chinese conglomerate Fosun is planning to relaunch the Thomas Cook brand "imminently." The brand would be resurrected for the British market and to compete in online format.

Fosun had reported in January 2020 the intention to re-launch Thomas Cook as an online company starting with the European summer season.

Since the beginning of 2020, the Chinese company was recruiting many professionals who had been part of Thomas Cook's staff before the closure, with the intention of applying for an ATOL license to operate in the United Kingdom from the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Fosun announced the purchase of the brand of the bankrupt British tour operator Thomas Cook for 11 million pounds (12.75 million euros) in early November 2019.

Fosun was the main partner of the Birtan group since spring 2019, after the bankruptcy, they also acquired the newest hotel brands of the group Casa Cook and Cook's Club.
