Despite the inflationary and geopolitical context, the desire to get away from it all continues unabated. According to the European Travel Commission, 68% of Europeans intend to travel by March 2024. Behind this desire to travel lie many motivations, such as the discovery of a new culture, the need to disconnect or the thirst for adventure. Increasingly connected holidays
Among the major trends in travel in 2024, Amadeus and Expedia agree that artificial intelligence will gain ground. But not just any artificial intelligence, since the two travel giants are talking about generative AI.
Upstream of the booking process, this technology can offer travellers personalised, intuitive advice, playing a key role in the planning of a holiday. It can also play a decisive role downstream of the booking by facilitating the management of after-sales service and customer feedback.
According to the survey conducted by Expedia for its report, 40% of French people aged between 18 and 34 are interested in using AI to plan their trips. Half of them also consider it to be a very useful planning tool.
The figures are even more optimistic in the latest study by Zendesk, a company specialising in the development of CRM software. According to the study, 61% of French people would like AI to help them plan a trip. This figure rises to 74% among 25-34 year-olds.
In particular, travellers would like to use AI at this stage to find the best holiday destinations at the best price (31%) and to be helped with the management of travel documents such as VISA (12%). While 32% are prepared to share the purpose of the trip and 40% their available budget, the sharing of banking data and information on health and sexuality is much less popular.
Travellers want AI to solve problems in a single, transparent interaction. Our report highlights this trend, with 72% of consumers expecting companies to implement AI to create better customer experiences.
