Who hasn't dreamed of working with their feet in the sand and the sound of the waves in the background? A dream made possible by the widespread use of teleworking. Although this phenomenon predates the health crisis, it has definitely taken off thanks to this unprecedented period that has called into question our current working methods. Many employees have left their offices and open spaces for more exotic destinations where reconciling professional and personal life is a real pleasure. A new exodus is underway and brings with it a number of new buzzwords such as workation, digital nomadism, bleisure and greendesking.

Workation and digital nomadism: the best of both worlds

The work revolution is underway in the digital age, offering new possibilities for understanding the world of work. Gone are the offices, open spaces and other traditional workplaces, and in their place are third places such as coworking spaces or workstations. This very recent term refers to hybrid spaces that bring together under the same roof offices to be shared and places that encourage relaxation, meetings and playful activities.

These are all new hybrid spaces designed to meet the needs of digital nomads. Another new term that has recently entered our vocabulary refers to people working in a digital job that allows them to work remotely and travel.

This means no more daily constraints such as commuting time, dress code or fixed hours, allowing employees to have a better quality of life with less stress. According to a study by Levels.io, there will be a total of 1 billion mobile workers worldwide by 2035. In addition, twice as many French people have embarked on the workation adventure since the health crisis.

Although thousands of people had already adopted this lifestyle, the pandemic has accelerated the development and popularity of this phenomenon. According to Clément Marinos, lecturer in economics at the University of Southern Brittany, "the workation trend has grown thanks to new technologies, but also to the emergence of new work practices". A trend that goes hand in hand with the desire of more and more employees to set up their own business as a freelancer.

According to a study conducted by passport-photo.online in the US, the number of digital nomads with freelance status has increased by 15% since 2021, while the community of employed digital nomads has grown from 6.3 million to 10.2 million between 2020 and 2021. Unsurprisingly, the...
