The last French team still qualified for the European Rugby Cup, the Racing 92, competed against the Irlish of Munster in the semi-final of the Champions Cup, on Sunday, April 22 at the Chaban-Delmas stadium in Bordeaux. Hospitality ON provides the results showing the impact of this athletic event on the hotel sector.

On Sunday, they were not 50,000. But two years after the incredible celebration offered by Irish fans at the Euro football championship, the Red Army was back. In 2013 and 2014, close to 7,000 fans came to Montpellier and then Marseille to root for their team during the two semi-finals of the Champions Cup against Clermont and Toulon. This year, the stadium was divided into two colors: blue of Racing 92 and red for Munster. This semi-final was played out in front of a stadium of 24,500.

Globally, the indicators show the reach and appeal of this competition with occupancy rates at +6.3 points, an average daily rate up +18.7% and a RevPAR up +28.9%. It must not be forgotten that the transport strikes that slowed down France overall were not inconsequential for events located in the provinces. Cities suffered most during the SNCF, especially Bordeaux which was strongly affected and experienced a drop in occupancy by close to 10 additional points.

Moreover, the daily change in occupancy rate illustrates growth by + 11.6 points for the night of Saturday, April 21 to Sunday, April 22 thanks to the arrival of Irish supporters on the eve of the match. The occupancy rate also shows an increase by + 15.9 points in the night of Sunday, April 22 to Monday, April 23 despite a 6:15 pm endgame. It may be observed that Bordeaux played Paris St Germain with a sell-out crowd (40,000 spectators) at the Matmut Atlantique stadium, but the question remains regarding travel of supporters from Paris.

The match of the publics was won by the famous Red Army, which had to honor a contingent of 5,000 seats given by the EPCR to each of the clubs, particularly since the Irish airline Aer Lingus took care to add additional flights...
