Punctuated by strikes and marked by the end of the winter holidays, the month of March could have suffered from an economic situation that was not to its advantage. However, the French hotel industry has once again done relatively well: a review of the first few weeks of spring.

In March, France posted a 15.3% increase in RevPAR thanks to an ADR 20.8% higher than in 2019. On the other hand, the gap in terms of occupancy is widening slightly and now registers -2.9 points in terms of occupancy rate (the country posted -1.8 point in February vs February 2019).

Upscale hotels are recording the strongest increase in activity with +23% increase in RevPAR due to the ADR at +30%, but from an occupancy point of view, it is also the segment that is lagging the most (-3.2 points). The midscale segment manages to regain almost the pre-covid equilibrium in terms of occupancy rate (-0.6 points) and thanks to an ADR of +18.3%, the trend in terms of RevPAR is close to the upscale segment (+17.1%). The budget and economy segments have grown by +12.1% and +10.1% respectively.

Paris is still recording the best performances both in terms of occupancy (-1.8 point but slightly down on last month when occupancy exceeded its pre-Crisis standards: +1.1 point) and ADR (+34.6%).

In the regions, however, although the delay has been made up (+9.5% of RevPAR between March 2023 and March 2019), the number of visitors is still 3 points behind and the ADR increase remains well below the average (only +15.2%).

Given that March marks the end of the school holidays (only zone C and Corsica were on holiday until Monday 6th), the results are rather good on a national scale. If...
