France's hospitality industry posts particularly homogeneous growth overall by 6.3% although details by region are more contrasted than usual.
This month of June 2018 focused on sports with part of the Roland Garros tennis tournament, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Grand Prix de France at Castellet amassing 160,000 spectators in three days.
Keeping up its good momentum, the French hotel sector pursued its trajectory: after obtaining growth in its RevPAR by +7.1% in April, then +4.2% in May, growth continued in June with +6.3% across all segments combined. The trend is favorable both for the occupancy rate (+1.9 point), which rose from 76.8% to 78.6%, and for average daily rates (+3.8%), which jumped by 5 euros from 78.5 to 83.5 euros.
Moreover, this June is representative of the first semester in terms of RevPAR since the year-to-date indicator for chain and independent hotels is +6.2%.
Each category recorded a RevPAR increase by more than 6%. The budget, economy and mid-range segments improved by 1 to 2 points in terms of occupancy rates, while their average daily rates rose significantly by between +3.6% (mid-range) and +4.8% (budget). The trend was the opposite for the high-end segment, where the occupancy rate rose by +3.4 points, approaching 84%, while average daily rates for the segment experienced weaker growth (+2.1%).
Any large geographic area benefits from these performances even if the provinces lower the overall RevPAR average as it often does. Thus, with an occupancy rate of +0.9 points and average daily rates up 2.4%, the provinces posted the weakest RevPAR evolution with an increase by just 3.6%. The capital recorded +8.6% on the indicator thanks to the 3 points increase in occupancy rate to more than 90% and +5.0% increase in average daily rates. Île-de-France strikes hard with +10.8% growth on the RevPAR, notably due to a +4.5-point jump in occupancy rate to 85%.
