Cannes

The month of May launched the beginning of a fine period with a profusion of events that boosted French hoteliers' results. This is clear in a look at the latest performances from Cannes, Paris or Nice. A study confirms this trend with the majority of French people who plan to stay in France for their summer holidays.

The Cannes film festival inaugurated the fine summer days with offering a good outlook for the summer season. Among other things, net growth is evident in in 2019 over the previous year. In addition the rendez-vous for tennis lovers has not left hoteliers in Paris proper impervious: a spike in occupancy June 4 and 5 lead to and occupancy rate of 97% of available rooms. Hoteliers in Nice had the pleasure of watching their figures climb with the FiFA Women's Word Cup that resulted in 87% occupancy of its supply on Wednesday, June 12 for the France – Norway match, and 90% the next day. FiFA Women's World Cup will continue until July 7.

Also encouraging is the study by Cofidis regarding the French population's summer travel intentions that shows that 62% of those interviewed wish to take vacation this summer and that half of them (51%) will spend that time in France. The preferred destinations are, unsurprisingly, shorelines, such as Nouvelle Aquitaine (21%), Occitanie (16%) and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur  region (15%). On a scale of departments, Charente Maritime (8%), the Hérault (6%), the Var (5%), the Maritime Alps (4%) and the Vendée (4%), should host the most vacationers. These predictions thus augur well for the season to come; and we may be certain that foreign tourists will complement clientele at the French supply.
