Despite a drop in occupancy in Strasbourg following the attack of 11 December, the picture is not so bleak for hoteliers.
Relayed by the media around the world, the images of Strasbourg in mourning did not correspond to the joy of the Alsatian Christmas markets that we are used to hearing or enjoying.
Impacting Strasbourg's occupancy rates, the attack certainly discouraged some tourists from visiting the Christmas Capital. However, hotels still record an almost daily increase in their RevPAR (revenue per available room).
Thus, from December 12 - the day after the exceptional event - the OR fell with a sharp drop on Saturday, December 15, by -16.6 points impacting the RevPAR to -13.4%.
Except for Saturday's dark day, RevPARs continue to climb and show a positive trend for December compared to the previous year.
It should be noted that the Yellow Vests demonstrations and the attack had an impact on arrivals, without erasing the good results of hoteliers in this month of December 2018.
