Seville

The capital of Andalusia, Seville is an important business and service centre in the south of the peninsula with a rich historical past at a crossroads of Eastern and Western cultures.

The economic development of Andalusia led to the installation of numerous transport infrastructures and the presence of the Guadalquivir River allowed the development of a port activity around which the city was born. Leisure tourism is well established, contrary to business travels which remain less dynamic despite the city's efforts to develop this segment. In 2016, Seville airport handled 4,624,000 passengers, up 1.5% on the previous year.

In 2017, Seville Cathedral (Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See), which houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus, welcomed nearly 2 million visitors and is the 5th most visited monument in Spain as well as the symbol of Seville tourism. A major source of income for Seville, urban planning is largely responsible for its maintenance, in particular the pedestrianization of the Avenue de la Constitution, where the building's façade is located, to prevent pollution degradation.

As of January 1, 2018, the city's chain supply had 7,685 rooms, a slight increase (+1%) compared with the previous year.

Coastal Andalusia has more than 1,000 hotels and nearly 92,000 rooms, or 72.6% of the Andalusian region's total supply (excluding the coast). On average, Andalusian coastal properties have a lower capacity than those in the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands, with an average of 89 rooms per property. The supply is mainly positioned on the upscale segment, with more than 60,000 rooms, i.e. 2/3 of the accommodation capacity.

In 2017, Seville recorded an 8.6% gain in RevPAR over the year, after +14.4% in 2015 and +12.3% in 2016. This dynamic was driven by the joint rebound in occupancy (+1.4 pt) and average daily rate (+6.4%). The Andalusian region has one of the highest RevPARs in metropolitan Spain, with €77 in 2017, up 7% across the year.
