Minister of State Dorothee Bär launches a new project "Digital Identities" at the Steigenberger Am Kanzleramt.

Dorothee Bär, Minister of Digitalization, held a special press conference at the Steigenberger Am Kanzleramt Hotel to announce the launch of a pilot project called "Digital Identities". She went to the hotel reception and symbolically became the first guest to use a digital identity to check in. This process eliminates aspects such as the need to fill out a paper check-in form, saving guests time. Security is enhanced because the process also covers check-out.

At the event, Marcus Bernhardt, CEO of Deutsche Hospitality, said:

Today, we have come together with the federal government and other economic players to make an important step that will make our industry even more attractive to customers. This pilot project will enable staff working for our customers and partners, including Lufthansa, Deutsche Bahn, Robert Bosch GmbH and BWI GmbH, to use a digital identity to check in at our hotels. I am particularly pleased that this project was created in collaboration with other major hoteliers such as Motel One and Lindner Hotels rather than acting as a stand-alone solution for a single hotel group.

The goal of the federal government by introducing the digital identity project is to pool different pieces of identification such as personal IDs, driver's licenses, health cards, business cards and student IDs to create a "digital ecosystem." The idea is that this will lead to a significant reduction in the amount of bureaucracy that citizens face in their daily lives.

In order to achieve this digitalization goal, the federal government has partnered with Deutsche Hospitality, Motel One and Lindner Hotels as well as employees of Deutsche Bahn AG, Lufthansa AG, Robert Bosch GmbH and BWI GmbH to launch a pilot project at the Hotel Am Kanzleramt. Initially, the focus will be on check-in via smart phone. A special "ID Wallet" has been developed for the business travelers of the participating companies. It will allow them to automate the tasks of checking in, transferring their check-in address, and indicating the correct company address for the invoice. More than 40 Steigenberger hotels are participating in the project.
