The company Navitaire, bought in 2016 by Amadeus is working to develop an offer making it possible to do research and make reservations in the tourism sector using a virtual reality system.
Navitaire is developing a project that will offer an immersive 3D experience using virtual reality and a headset to realize online purchases. This system will enable clients to do searches, visualize destinations on a spinning globe and to make bookings. Users will also be able to see a car for rent, walk through a plane and see their seats. The platform’s final goal is to offer hotel rooms and options regarding social media (such as the ability to see which social media friends have stayed at a given destination). As a reminder, Best Western also launched a virtual reality offer in 2016 giving visitors the ability to have a 360° visit in its 2,000 hotels located in the United States of America.
At this occasion, Justin Wilde, a user experience developer at Navitaire said: “I see a future in which the internet will be a 3D experience, and everyone will have their own portable 3D headsets. This will be a much more natural experience for us, because the world we live in is three-dimensional. I think technology, and the way we design the online user experience should reflect that too.”
The company Navitair was created in 1993 and bought by Amadeus in 2016. It provides business and technology solutions to airline and tourism industries. The project is currently under development with a patent pending.
