Switzerland (Country)

168,000 persons are working in tourism which accounts for 4.3% of the national job market.

Tourism contributes to 2.1% of Switzerland’s GDP, and remains one of the country’s key economic sectors after the metalworking, machinery and chemical industries, and the banking & insurance sector.

In 2016, the overall number of overnight stays from non-residents decreased, whereas the domestic clientele increased slightly. This results from the currency effects between the Swiss franc and the euro, European visitors favouring less pricy ‘competitor’ destinations, often within the Eurozone itself.

With 6 769 rooms as of January 1, 2017 AccorHotels remains a solid leader on the Swiss market
