The year takes off like a shot

The year 2008 is starting the way 2007 closed: with top-ranking performance. In February, revenue per available room showed 9.7% growth, up from January’s 9.6%. The first months of 2008 show strong activity that is higher than all of the previous twelve months (+ 8.6%). Despite alarming announcements of a drop in purchasing power, the strength of the euro or the fear of a slump in the American economy, France’s hotel industry is not losing speed. The average daily rate is up by 7.4% with no consequences on occupancy, which rose by 1.3 point.

The very positive results of this year’s onset is the result of a healthy upscale hotel segment, offering proof, if necessary, that the hotel industry is recording low points that are less and less evident and that even slow periods can be prosperous. The 4* category sees its RevPAR improve by 14.8%...
