The year 2008 is starting the way 2007 closed: with top-ranking performance. In February, revenue per available room showed 9.7% growth, up from January’s 9.6%. The first months of 2008 show strong activity that is higher than all of the previous twelve months (+ 8.6%). Despite alarming announcements of a drop in purchasing power, the strength of the euro or the fear of a slump in the American economy, France’s hotel industry is not losing speed. The average daily rate is up by 7.4% with no consequences on occupancy, which rose by 1.3 point.
The very positive results of this year’s onset is the result of a healthy upscale hotel segment, offering proof, if necessary, that the hotel industry is recording low points that are less and less evident and that even slow periods can be prosperous.
