After a month of July when the RevPAR progressed by 4.0%, August posted results that were almost identical to last year’s (+0.6%). In 2007, August ended with vertiginous growth in the revenue per available room close to 10%. This year it is difficult to be disappointed because August 2008 was on a par with a record month. France even ranks among the best in Europe. Average daily rates, particularly in the upscale, continue to drive growth (+4.9%). The only major negative point that will surely worry hoteliers: occupancy slipped below 70% and lost 3.0 points. On twelve months, the RevPAR remains correctly oriented with 6.5% growth.
Unlike July, which has a significant share of business clientele, the month of August is almost fully dependent on leisure tourism.
