With 15.6 million foreign visitors from January until April 2014, Spain may boast about the fine 9.2% growth in its foreign tourist arrivals compared to the same period last year. The hotel industry in the kingdom follows this positive evolution, posting an increase in occupancy rate by 5.3 points, according to data from MKG Hospitality.

According to Frontur (inbound tourism survey), more than 15.6 million foreign tourists entered Spain from January to April, meaning 1.3 million more than the previous year on the same period for a 9.2% increase. Thus, with these good statistics the Minister for Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria hopes for a 5% increase in arrivals at the end of 2014.

During the same period the hotel sector benefited from this change in occupancy, posting an occupancy rate up 3.8 points and an ADR per room up by 0.4% over last year. As a result the Revenue per available room (RevPAR) also increased by 7.1%.

This year, the month of April posted even more important increases. The shift of Holy Week to April, a religious event that took place in March last year, partly explains these good statistics. So, with an occupancy rate and average daily rate up, 12.4% growth was posted for the Revenue per available room.
