A report from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Tourism Australia underlined the potential of tourism coming from Southeast Asia for the coming years.

In 2012, 49 billion dollars of international tourism spending were spent by five key markets in Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. This figure has more than doubled in comparison to the 25 billion dollars spent in 2006, especially thanks to the development of a middle class prospering in the region.

The WTO expects to see a positive change in Asian market performances over the next few years: "According to the long-term forecast issued by UNWTO in Tourism in 2030, the number of arrivals of international tourists from Asia Pacific markets should more than double to surpass 205 million in 2010 to 541 million in 2030", stated Secretary general of UNWTO, Mr. Taleb Rifai.

The UNWTO report and Tourism Australia thereby allow better understanding of the five big emerging feeder markets to better communicate with them and better respond to their needs.
