Sofitel Copacabana converted to Fairmont brand

AccorHotels recently announced the conversion of Sofitel Copacabana into a Fairmont property. It will be the first hotel operating under the Fairmont brand in South America.

The Rio de Janeiro-based Sofitel Copacabana will soon be converted into a Fairmont-branded hotel following renovation works which are planned to be completed in 14 months' time. It will be the first property operating under the Fairmont brand in Latin America: all the hotel's 400 rooms as well as the conference room will be entirely revamped. Plus, the hotel will make a new swimming pool and a spa available to its customers.

The AccorHotels Group is thus pursuing its expansion strategy under the Fairmont brand which already has some 70 properties spread across 22 countries. 3 hotels opened recently in Turkey, China and in the Middle East, with 3 more to come by the late-2017 in Jordan, Saudi Arabia and in the US. On a side note, on January 1, 2016, AccorHotels ranked 6th among the international hospitality groups with 3,995 properties and offering some 554,508 rooms, according to data published by Hospitality ON.
