Following the #MeToo movement and its various revelations, hotel groups are thinking of ways to better protect their employees.

Marriott International and Hilton Hotels and Resorts are considering equipping their employees with electronic tools to alert their colleagues in case of an emergency. The world leader is developing an alert box for its housekeeping staff. In their video, we see a chambermaid using the box, which immediately alerts hotel security to her position and emergency situation.

“No one should ever be fearful doing their job, least of all associates on-property who are so vital to the success of our company and our industry,” said Arne Sorenson, President and Chief Executive Officer, Marriott International. “The safety of everyone at our properties is always a top priority as is deterring and combatting harassment of any kind. I’m deeply proud to say our entire industry is unified around these important goals.”

Meliá Hotels International signed an international agreement

For its part, Meliá Hotels International and the IUF (International Union of Food, Agriculture, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations) signed an international agreement today to help prevent sexual harassment.

This new agreement is further progress in policies aimed at preventing sexual harassment by providing an international framework for its both prevention and detection. It also aims to improve the protocols for taking action implemented by Meliá Hotels International in the countries in which it operates.
