The hotel chain Scandic Hotels announces the 2020 opening of a new 483-room hotel in the building that houses the Helsinki Central Railway Station.

Scandic Hotels has just signed a contract with the property owner Exilion to develop a hotel within the Helsinki Central Railway Station, one of the most recognized historic buildings in the city. Located in the area currently occupied by the railway company VR Group’s offices, the property will feature 483 rooms, one of the largest capacities of the chain. It will also include a conference area for up to 900 people and a 420-seat restaurant. The project is being developed in collaboration with the National Board of Antiquities of Finland and the City of Helsinki.

“This will be a unique development and we are excited to open a hotel in such a historic building. We look forward to creating a spectacular hotel for Helsinki’s locals and visitors” says Frank Fiskers, President & CEO of Scandic.

As a reminder, the Scandic chain recently acquired the Finnish Restel's portfolio. It currently has 28 properties in Finland, including 5 Scandic hotels and two under the Hilton banner in Helsinki.
