IHG Hotels & Resorts introduces the IHG LIFT program, an owner growth initiative designed to enhance hotel development opportunities for historically underrepresented groups.
With a commitment of over $30 million over five years, the program offers support, access to capital and guidance throughout the hotel life cycle to eligible owners in the U.S. and Canada. IHG LIFT stands for Leadership, Inclusivity, Facilitation and Transformation, symbolizing the change necessary for the evolution of the entire industry.
In keeping with its commitment to diversity, IHG LIFT is advancing the company's ongoing initiatives, including its EPIC supplier diversity program and partnerships with DEI-focused architecture, design and construction firms. The program aims to attract diverse owners, addressing their under-representation in the hotel industry and in the IHG ownership community. The expansion of this program builds on IHG's history as a champion of diversity, such as its support of organizations like NABHOOD and the Latino Hotel Association.
IHG LIFT also complements IHG's broader goal of fostering an inclusive culture and its Journey to Tomorrow 2030 responsible business plan, which aims for positive change in a variety of areas. Partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities further amplify IHG's commitment to diversity and talent in the hospitality industry.
“As our industry grows, we need to keep our focus on enabling more success for our diverse ownership base. Barriers such as a lack of access to capital and the right networks put such owners at a disadvantage. The IHG LIFT program is specifically designed to help ease the path to ownership and ultimately support owners. Diversifying ownership is not only better for IHG, it also lifts up our entire industry.” - Julienne Smith, Chief Development Officer, Americas, IHG Hotels & Resorts
“A program such as IHG LIFT is important to our hotel industry. These efforts help grow our community of owners which should be as diverse as the guests we serve every day. IHG’s commitment and focus to make a difference certainly resonates with me as an owner.” - Jyoti Sarolia, CEO, Ellis Hospitality, and owner of IHG hotels in California
