Born in 1956, the Spanish family group Iberostar places sustainability at the heart of its business model.
Iberostar brand started in 1983 with 7 hotels in Mallorca and arrived abroad in 1993 at Punta Cana. The company is currently present in 16 countries on resort and city hotel markets.
To develop its CSR commitment, the group launched in 2004 Fundación Iberostar to support social and cultural development.
It later developed the Wave of Change project in 2017 to preserve the oceans and lead a path for a better tourism. The company aims for example at providing its restaurants with 100% responsible seafood by 2025.Values completely aligned with the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance.
They also provide customers with local home-made catering in a double objective of respecting the planet and raising awareness among its customers. A cimtment already engaged with a single use plastic free politic instaured in the properties from 2020.
The company signed the Glasgow Declaration and committed to being 100% carbon neutral by 2030
Her are the commitments listed in the press release announcing the membership:
- Make its operations waste-free by 2025 and its seafood consumption 100% responsible,
- Achieve carbon neutrality by 2030,
- Reducing its energy consumption by at least 35% by 2030 with plans to offset nearly 75% of its carbon footprint with nature-based solutions such as mangrove restoration.
