
The mythic hotel in Place Vendôme is to undergo its first major renovation since 1979.
The works, the total cost of which will amount to 140 million euros, will take two years to complete. According to professionals, “it was about time” the Ritz underwent refurbishment works, it having been “too long without investment.”The 18th century private mansion, opened in 1889 by Swiss hotelier César Ritz, is currently under the ownership of Mohammed Al Fayed. It boosts 5 stars but failed to qualify for "palace" status last year. The Hôtel de Crillon in Place de la Concorde, is to follow suit and close for two years’ renovation.The Ritz Paris is set to reopen in August 2014.
