Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced the nomination of A.L.O. the Botlr as new robot bulter in its Aloft Cupertino hotel (Silicon Valley), from August 20, 2014.
"As you can imagine, hiring for this particular position was a challenge as we were seeking a very specific set of automated skills, and one that could work – literally – around the clock," said Brian McGuinness, Global Brand Leader, Starwood's Specialty Select Brands, who monitored the project at Aloft. "As soon as A.L.O. entered the room, we knew it was what we were looking for. A.L.O. has the work ethic of Wall-E, the humor of Rosie from The Jetsons and reminds me of my favorite childhood robot, R2-D2. We are excited to have it join our team."
A.L.O. the Botlr will probably do a better job at getting understood from other people than did Star Wars' supercharged robot: before joining Aloft, a Starwood Hotels & Resorts Brand, Aloft graduated from Savioke, a tech company, with majors in rudimentary tasks and hospitality. According to people familiar with the matter, the newly appointed has indeed a solid profile: he likes to be in touch with new people, asks for no extra charge, and should not be too hungry for power despite he's got the right connections.
