As part of a carefully considered strategy, Twickenham Stadium, owned by the Rugby Football Union, recently announced the arrival of the Radisson RED brand at its South Stand, succeeding the former Marriott hotel.
From 1 April, hotel operator Aimbridge Hospitality will take over operational management of the property, which will remain open while a refurbishment programme is carried out in preparation for its rebranding later this year.
Aimbridge Hospitality oversees various Radisson Group properties worldwide. Its commitment to integrating best in class experiences has contributed significantly to the success of hotel operations across multiple brands.
For the London Marriott Hotel Twickenham, all current staff will either transfer to Aimbridge Hospitality or be retained as employees of the hotel's current operator.
Opened in 2009, the London Marriott Hotel Twickenham offers 156 bedrooms, including six suites overlooking the pitch. Over the years, the hotel has established its presence in the Twickenham hotel landscape.
The Radisson RED brand has completed several notable openings in 2023 including Radisson RED Helsinki, Radisson RED Tsibilis and Radisson RED Madrid, in partnership with Covivio Hotels. This latest opening in Madrid has strengthened the Radisson's presence in strategic markets while serving as a catalyst for other projects in Europe.
In the UK and Ireland, the group manages over 70 hotels, totalling over 16,000 rooms, with 10 properties and 1,600 rooms under development. The opening of Radisson RED will consolidate the brand's expansion in the UK hotel market.
Radisson RED made its debut in Brussels in 2016 and has since successfully expanded its presence in the UK, including Glasgow and Liverpool. In 2020, the former Park Inn Heathrow was also split into two hotels, creating the 258-room Radisson RED London Heathrow.
“The signing of Radisson RED with the Rugby Football Union is an incredibly important milestone as we continue to grow both the Radisson RED brand and our wider brand portfolio across the UK. Since Radisson RED debuted over five years ago in the UK, we have seen exponential growth with multi-award-winning properties in Glasgow and Liverpool, as well London and have upcoming openings in Huddersfield and Edinburgh, in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Radisson RED is a very relevant brand for today’s guests and owners as it taps into the creative traveller’s mindset with its twist on the conventional hotel by incorporating art, music, fashion, and design, and we are expecting to see further strong, dynamic growth over the coming years.” - Adela Cristea, vice president business development UK and Ireland at Radisson Hotel Group
