
The Sofitel Plaza Hanoi is set for its April 12 party after three phases of renovations.
Architect Victor Loh of DP Design in Singapore was in charge of the redesign, which upgraded the hotel’s 317 guestrooms as well as public spaces.Luxury Club Rooms on the building’s 15th to 18th floors were completely remodeled to give a more open feel with transparent bathroom doors, a lattice wood divider and built-in cabinet. A single Vietnamese artifact is featured in the doorway entrance, while bathrooms have new lighting and polished marble.Ming Restaurant, the hotel’s Chinese fine-dining venue, has a new décor featuring silver detailing on the backs of chairs, potted bonsai and a tea lounge. The restaurant now includes two open kitchens were guests can watch the preparation of fresh noodles and more than 100 types of dim sum. Those wishing to dine privately can choose from three VIP rooms.The Summit Lounge now has a décor inspired by a penthouse, with a new outdoor wooden deck and wrap-around glass walls. New features include an illuminated arched ceiling, sofas and a dedicated DJ booth. The lounge is finished in a palate of purples, blues and reds. The menu of cocktails and upscale Asian street food has also gotten an upgrade from Will Meyrick of Jimmy Lik’s.The Plaza Ballroom has been redone with leather-covered walls and sparkling chandeliers. The Club Sofitel, available to those staying in Luxury Club Rooms, has fresh furnishings with a tropical twist.Antoine Lhuguenot has returned to the hotel to serve as GM for the re-launch.
